5-day course, July 11-15 2016, UPEACE Campus, Costa Rica
Do you sense that the world is changing at an increasingly quickening pace? Are you noticing that the way you communicate, find information, read, learn, and work have changed in the last few years? And have you had time to think rethink your practices as an educator in response to these changes?
Educating in such a world can be quite overwhelming. This course will allow you the space and structure to design an intervention that responds to the central question: “What will be important for your students to know, value and be able to do in a future that’s hard to visualize?” This course will bring together innovative educational leaders and practitioners from around the world who are committed to being actors, not spectators.

This professional development workshop will cover the following topic areas:
- Educating in a Changing World: Principles, concepts, frameworks and methodologies for educating in a fast-changing world.
- Pedagogies for the 21st Century: The most suitable teaching and learning strategies in an era where content is freely accessible, information overload is the norm, and ‘making things stick’ is an art.
- Design Thinking: Applying the principles of design thinking for educators who are ready to implement their ideas and build innovative learning environments.
- Global Citizenship: Case studies, frameworks, and tools to enable participants to integrate the values of global citizenship, environmental consciousness, and social justice into their future projects.
- Storytelling and pitching: As ‘edupreneurs’ or innovators in educational change, this course will help you communicate your story to connect with the hearts and minds of your audience.
This seminar integrates a combination of classroom time and workshops with targeted field visits that present themes from the classroom in real life situations. Lectures are offered on the campus of the University for Peace, with field trips around the greater San Jose area.
Enrollment is limited to 24 participants.
The Centre is happy to help participants arrange a pre- or post-course activity in Costa Rica. This could include Spanish language school, a visit to the beach or ziplining.
By the end of this course, participants will have:
- Examined the challenges facing educators in light of changes in society, information flows, advancing technologies, and more.
- Built the knowledge, skills, and perspectives necessary for responding creatively and proactively to the challenges and opportunities of educating for the future.
- Been exposed to readings, cases, online resources, frameworks and a growing network of alumni who are engaged in thinking about educating in the 21st Century.
$1,250 per participant.
Enroll with someone else and each will receive a 10% discount.
This tuition fee includes all course materials, field visits, and five lunches.
All participants will be awarded a certificate from UPEACE Centre for Executive Education upon completion of the course.
Who Should Enroll?
Innovative educators at all levels – teachers, university professors, administrators and non-formal educators – are the primary target audience. However, anyone who considers himself or herself an ‘educator’ and who is interested in being an changemaker in the education world will benefit tremendously from this course.
The course is led by Mohit Mukherjee, Director of the UPEACE Centre for Executive Education. Mr. Mukherjee has lived and worked in three continents (ten countries) holding leadership roles in the private sector, in nonprofit organizations, and universities. He is the Director of UPEACE’s Centre for Executive Education, which he founded in 2006. In this role he has led over 40 seminars in seven countries on themes ranging from ‘Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Social Change’ to ‘Beyond Traditional Leadership’
Mr. Mukherjee has a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University. He did his Master’s at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, also taking courses at Harvard Business School focusing on social enterprise. When Mohit is not at teaching at UPEACE or delivering courses for the Centre, you can find him with his two young daughters (four and six) who remind him daily of the incredible creative potential of each and every person.
