By combining programs, participants can hand-craft their own experience, drawing together the most relevant set of courses for their unique goals and background.
Complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Social Innovation Management with the Amani Institute + 2 courses with the UPEACE Centre to receive a special Diploma in Social Innovation. Amani’s hands-on 9-month program (4 months in person + 5 months online) is based in Nairobi, Kenya, Bangalore, India or Sao Paulo, Brazil, global hubs for social innovation. WorldTeach, founded in 1986 by Harvard University students, has provided over 12 million hours of service in over 20 countries sending teachers around the world. Volunteers and alumni are now eligible to participate in a special rendition of UPEACE’s online course Educating in Changing Times just for WorldTeach!
Designing in Social Innovation and Leadership (DSIL) is academically vetted by the UPEACE Centre for Executive Education, and offers 10-day field experience in Southeast Asia is paired with online content. To earn a Diploma in Social Innovation, participants add on 4 UPEACE Centre courses from our portfolio.
The Center for Education Diplomacy in collaboration with DiploFoundation offers a 10-week online course in Education Diplomacy and a 7-week online course in Negotiation Skills for Education Diplomacy. Participants can combine 1 or both of these options with UPEACE Centre courses to complete 5 and earn an adapted Diploma in Social Innovation.
Based in Okinawa, Japan, Da Vinci International University provides students with a unique learning experience, using online coursework to complement practical assignments onsite. We are proud to be one of Da Vinci’s academic channels for online course offerings.
An organization dedicated to supporting social innovators/ changemakers in becoming their best and leveraging their skills for larger impact, KEY Communications offers workshop-style courses and coaching sessions. Take part in their High Impact Communication course, academically vetted by the UPEACE Centre for Executive Education, and add on 4 UPEACE Centre courses from our portfolio to earn a Diploma in Social Innovation.

Currently the Director General of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and was previously the Rector of the University for Peace in Costa Rica. Prior to that, she served as Executive Director of LEAD (Leadership for Environment and Development) International, a programme established by The Rockefeller Foundation to bring together and train mid-career leaders from all parts of the world in improving their leadership skills around the issues of sustainable development. Ms. Marton-Lefèvre also formerly served as Executive Director of the International Council for Science (ICSU) based in Paris; and previous to that she was a Programme Specialist in Environmental Education under a joint UNESCO-UNEP Programme. She was also a university teacher in Thailand as a Peace Corps Volunteer. She was Vice Chair of the World Resources Institute, and is currently on the board of directors of the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), and a founding member of the China Council for Environment and Development. She is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society of the United Kingdom, and in 1999, she received the AAAS Award for International Cooperation in Science. Ms. Marton-Lefèvre joins the Centre’s Board as she is making a professional transition from serving as Rector of the University for Peace to Director General of the World Conservation Union (IUCN).
Diego May Diego
Has over 12 years of experience in Business Development in the technology and telecom sectors. Prior to joining Avantica, Diego worked in the Venture Capital Industry doing several transactions in highly scalable ventures. Diego created Costa Rica’s 1st group of angel investors, as part of a strategic initiative focused on investments in start-up companies in Costa Rica and the Latin American region., Prior to this, he was the regional Strategic Investments Manager for Intel Capital and served in the boards of several technology companies. Diego also has worked in sales and Business Development with Lucent Technologies, and Verizon Communications. Diego has a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires (Argentina) and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Business.
A founding member of Morgan Stanley’s Microfinance Institutions Group which he joined after working for the firm’s Private Wealth Management practice covering Central America. Prior to that, he worked for The Global Exchange for Social Investment (GEXSI) in London and for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in San José, Costa Rica which he joined after working for the World Bank. In his earlier career, he was the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Agriculture in his home country, Costa Rica, and also served as a Legislative Advisor to a member of the Costa Rican Assembly. Henry received an MBA from Oxford University and an MPA from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He also holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Costa Rica.
The Costa Rican ambassador to Turkey at the Ministry of International Affairs. He previously worked as the Costa Rican representative to the UN in Geneva, where he promoted Costa Rican values in the global agenda, and supported cooperation with other UN agencies and international organizations in Geneva. His experience in the public, international sphere expands to his prior position as associate director for the Americas Program at the Carter Center. There, he assisted with strategic direction, policy formation, development strategy, and management of the program, including budget, fundraising, and public relations. He has experience in designing, coordinating, and managing international cooperation programs on democratization, development, national dialogue initiatives, human rights, electoral processes, civil society, police, and military. He hopes to continue to utilize his professional training and expertise on political processes to positively influence the promotion of human rights, the strengthening of democracies, political participation and representation and the construction of open and inclusive societies. Mr. Varela-Erasheva holds an MA in European – Latin American relations from the University of Bradford, England. He also holds an MBA from the Universidad Europea de Madrid in Spain and the Universidad Interamericana in Costa Rica.
Associate Dean for Masters and Executive Programs and Gulf Oil Foundation Professor of Business at the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz Graduate School of Business. He has previously served on the marketing faculties of Purdue University and the University of Michigan, and has been a Visiting Professor at the Australian Graduate School of Management, Sydney and the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad. Dr. Chatterjee received his Ph.D. in Marketing from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, and the equivalent of an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. He also has several years of industry experience, in engineering, project management, sales management, marketing, and strategic planning positions.
Dr. Chatterjee’s teaching, research, and consulting interests are in the area of customer-focused marketing and product/service strategies, particularly in high-tech and/or engineered products and services. His research has focused on models of market response to new products, with applications in forecasting, product design, and pricing, and in methods for measuring and representing customers’ perceptions of and preferences for competing products. Dr. Chatterjee’s articles have appeared in various academic journals including the Journal of Marketing Research and Management Science. He is an associate editor in the Marketing department of Management Science and a member of the Editorial Board of Marketing Science, two of the leading journals for quantitative research in marketing.
