Happiness Myths
Tal Ben-Shahar is an author and lecturer. He taught two of the largest classes in Harvard University’s history, “Positive Psychology” and “The Psychology of Leadership.” His books in the area of Positive Psychology have been translated into more than thirty languages, and have appeared on best-seller lists around the world. Tal obtained his PhD in Organizational Behavior and BA in Philosophy and Psychology from Harvard. He is also the founder of the Happiness Studies Academy.
We welcome all participants and speakers, give an overview of the two days of the event, and provide the frame in which happiness will be discussed, discovered, and engaged with.
Grief Into Gratitude • Reshma Khan • Kenya
In this session I want to focus on the Gratitude pill – pulling from my own experience and also that of the world and cultures around us. I want to challenge people to think about the things they are grateful for, and to
write their list and if possible, share into the room. I hope to then explore the ‘sense response’–when reading their list, what are they feeling and where, what are they thinking, and what else do they want to say? I want people to imagine everything they want, and write their gratitudes and feel that energy. At the very least, I want to share this tool because it helped me.

Regenerative Innovation: SDG • Paco Briseño • Spain
We need disruptive regenerative innovation to fix the challenges that impact the whole humanity. Bringing awareness, purpose and an abundance mindset together, we will be in the right track to understand the problems and design solutions for implementing the SDGs at the required pace. Only 94 months from March 2023 until December 2030. Bringing exponential technologies and the right methodologies we will be able to create the green swans that
make humanity flourish and create systemic and sustainable change for all. We will share easy and accessible tools that the attendees can start using immediately in their journey to a better
relationship with the planet generating positive impact.
Leadership Integrity • Angelika Pohnitzer • Austria
At Leadership Associates, our aim is to support women leaders in reaching and maintaining their integrity. We believe that integrity, an overused and under-researched concept, is a prerequisite for acting wisely and experiencing flow. In our understanding, practicing integrity is a way to recover and experience fundamental peace, wholeness, a state of alignment, aliveness, and authenticity. In this Ignite Session, Angelika – Leadership Associates’ CEO – will delve into the concept and invite participants to join in an embodiment exercise before sharing about personal understandings of integrity and relevant experiences.
Power One-to-One for a Happy Work Culture • Ali Macintyre • Canada
In this workshop we’ll explore how implementing one-on-ones with your team is one of the best ways to build a healthy and happy culture. Conducting one-on-ones is definitely one of my favourite parts about being a people and culture person. The benefits are obvious to the team, and doing your one-on-ones from a coaching mindset can be transformational in individual lives and in the company as a whole. It’s also one of the best tools for maintaining engagement in a remote work environment.
The Future of Mental Health Education • Ross Szabo • United States
It’s time for the approach to teaching people about mental health to evolve. Behind Happy Faces Mental Health Curriculum is a first of its kind, evidence-based, award-winning program, that is used by hundreds of thousands of students and adults nation-wide. Behind Happy Faces focuses on teaching participants: a new vocabulary for mental health; how to build effective coping skills; the importance of sympathy, empathy and compassion; among others.
Happiness as a Daily Habit • Paula Immo, Sofia Kauko-Valli & Miia Huitti • Finland
Miia’s LinkedIn Profile // Sofia’s LinkedIn Profile // Paula’s LinkedIn Profile
In this highly interactive workshop you get to try on five different viewpoints that, used together, measurably decrease symptoms of stress and anxiety, while increasing happiness at the same time. So much of what we have learned about happiness is simply wrong. This workshop is teaching you how happiness can become a habitual way of life and build engaged, happy, productive cultures of wellbeing. It provides a taste of a 6-month The Happiness PracticeTM program and as such is suitable especially for coaches and practitioners looking for new tools to engage in cultivating happiness as a true competitive advantage.
Emotional Salary • Clodagh Beaty • Spain
We’ll start the session by sharing a definition of Emotional Salary and what the ten Emotional Salary factors are based on our research. We’ll share an example question for each factor that leaders can ask to explore that factor with their team members. We will also share some ideas of practical ways leaders can increase emotional salary. To help participants to integrate the contents of the session we will be asking them to share an action or question with the group at the end of the session. Depending on the group size we will encourage participants to share via polls or discussion. The idea is that by the end of the session the participants will understand what Emotional Salary is, what the 10 factors are and have some questions they can use to start exploring their team’s Emotional Salary.
Finding Happiness Through Grief and Suffering • Shannon Poe • United States
Many people have felt hopeless, particularly over
the past two years. We have been taught that grief has five stages, and there is an end point and that is not true which leads people to feel frustrated when it does end when expected. In reality, is more like an ocean, and when navigated, people often find that during the journey, they can find happiness and joy through simple pleasures once again. It is happiness beyond the ripple of grief and suffering. During this session, I would like to provide an experience where individuals can learn about grief and take part in an experience when they can use one of their own experiences with grief and loss to see how they have found hope and happiness beyond the ripple so that they may thrive.
Create Your Own Happiness • Franklin Castro • Costa Rica
Website: http://yourneytoyou.com/
I would like to present a methodology that I have called “I CREATE TO BE”, as follows:
I. Happiness comes from you, mostly. CREATE. You don ́t search for happiness, you create it. TO BE. You can move, as often as you want, to a better version of yourself. In this methodology people create their own happiness.
The Future of Work – Inter Generational Workforce and Power Dynamics • Katherine Byrne • United States
We have 5 generations working under one roof. What are the power dynamics? How do we get work accomplished, ideas ignited and still have peace and joy? In this I cover the 5 different types of power and which works best with the specific generations.
Happiness at Work • Chelsea Marlen Fumo • Mozambique
Even though human beings are similar in their biological structures, their perception and ways of behaving are also influenced by their psychological, social, and insertion environments, which is why it is important to know how people’s mental health is perceived. I will share some accounts of this according to the Mozambican reality. I also intend to share perspectives on how being intentional impacts individuals’ well-being and on how to use being intentional in favor of a professional career.
Optimizing Happiness • Tal Leead • United States
Despite what you may believe happiness looks like, happiness is not a thing, a future place, or even a position you will one day reach. Happiness is a state created moment to moment by how you think, feel and behave in the present! Learning what holds you back from actualizing your happiness is a crucial first step. We will discuss what are some of the happiness fallacies that keep you from actualizing your happiness. Next step is figuring out the unique elements what make you happier, creating your own definition of happiness, and lastly learning to optimize it everyday.
Taking Responsibility for Your Own Happiness • Marcela Altamirano • Mexico
Through this talk I seek for there to be a reflection on how they are living their lives, where they are heading and what they are going to obtain with what they are deciding today, taking responsibility for everything that happens to us has a cause. Pause to reflect if we are really clear about what we want, what our true passions are, or if we are just living a fast-paced life without goals and objectives.

5 Ways To Change Your Life • Cassie Trujillo • United States
Life comes with challenges, no matter where we come from, how much money we have, how fit we are, or how much education we have had. And, at one time or another we will get stuck in our old patterns and not realize that there are more options. In this session you will learn 5 simple things you can start doing right now to get more of what you want in your life! Whatever that may be. Our brains are wired to look for danger and avoid discomfort, seek pleasure, and to save our energy. Our modern lives have many opportunities to reinforce these primitive brain patterns which lead us to collect evidence about risk and failure, buffer with superficial satisfaction, and to stay attached to our old patterns even if they don’t really support us anymore. To truly flourish and thrive we must learn how to retrain our brains through changes in our thinking, attention, and actions. These shifts help us feel more in control of our minds, how we relate to the world around us, and support us in creating lives that we love!
The Power of Awakening Joy • Christine Ramsay • United States
In order to live our best lives, prioritizing not only our physical well-being yet a holistic approach that incorporates mental, emotional, and spiritual health is important. Each person can tap into their unique superpowers and approach their lives from a holistic wellness model that integrates the mind, body, heart, and soul. Our overall health influences how we think, feel, and behave in daily life. When we have a roadmap to help guide us in this journey called life, we feel supported and can overcome everyday challenges leading to full rewarding lives. We explore each of these areas using the S.M.I.L.E. Live Joyfully framework that incorporates neuroscience as well as guided meditations, coaching exercises, and simple actionable tips for how individuals can continue to thrive and experience joy and happiness.
Playful Curiosity and Insight • Stacy Moore • United States
During the session, I will share a tool I’ve created to help people visually “see” their interconnected thoughts, and then change or replace thoughts to lead to a more purposeful and happy life. Curious Bird® Curiosity Cards are a playful self-discovery tool which you can use by yourself or together with others. The illustrations and word prompts are open to individual interpretation. During the mini workshop, people will get to experience the cards for themselves. I will provide a printable version of the cards for people to download and write on. I hope everyone will walk away with a wonderful gem of insight!

Then, I walk you through the sustainable development goals and show you how to use them as a reference for your social engagement commitment or, even better, for your social entrepreneurship. I will explain why sustainable development goals and targeting social issues are essential in today’s business endeavors, regardless of your for-profit interest. For any enterprise engaged in a social commitment, the result should always be a win-win situation. Finally, I will show you how to draft a plan for your social initiative aligned with your development plan.
Mindful Leaders • Magdalena Comas Coll • Spain
In the present moment mindful leadership is about being present and aware of your thoughts, feelings, and actions. It is about leading from a place of peace and compassion. When you are a mindful leader, you are able to see things from different perspectives, stay focused for way more than a moment, and make decisions based on what is best for everyone involved. Mindful leadership can help you create a more positive work environment and allow you to be more effective in your work. We can no longer afford to make decisions with distracted minds; instead, we must respond rather than react—In this session you will learn how to train your mind to lead with clarity and also focus.
This is your chance to engage with other Gross Global Happiness attendees! In these speed networking sessions, you will connect with other participants in 4-minute intervals. The Power of Purpose: Efecto Multiplicador • Tarek Saker • Panama
Living Mindfully in the Present Moment — A Key to Inner Peace, Wellbeing and Contentment • Lene Søvold • Norway
A presentation of the role of mindfulness (and what the term mindfulness really is about) and de-attachment or non-attachment in inner transformation and in experiencing a state of contentment or what one would call happiness. These practices or processes will also facilitate the flow state and an experience of contentment. Happiness or contentment is not something to strive towards ‘achieving’ in the future. It is independent of external ‘achievements’ or the collection of objects or experiences. It something that can be lived and experienced in the here and now, through the lens of presence, non-attachment and following the flow of life.
Education • Ana Rico • Mexico
I would like to present the results of a research I conducted. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between the development of soft skills and the motivation to learn English among university students. The results of this research showed that the intervention that was designed, applied, and evaluated, based on the elements of the PERMA model of wellbeing –positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, and achievement– aimed at the development of soft skills in students, motivated them to learn English in an online education modality which resulted from the measures imposed by the sanitary crisis caused by COVID-19.
I See You: Honoring Others • Kathleen Oweegon • United States
From the day we are born, we long for acknowledgement. When we receive acknowledgement of our reality as we experience it, that simple act creates a critical sense of connection and validation that inspires more collaborative behavior, a virtually immediate de-escalation of emotions, and mutual empathy. My goal is to evoke the desire in the audience members to freely and generously give acknowledgement to others, even those in whom they see great differences from themselves, even those whom they dislike, knowing that in so doing, they are sowing seeds of harmony, healing, and happiness.
Sustainable Happiness • Paula Immo • Finland
In this day and age, we really need happiness to be sustainable. This way of looking at happiness requires a shift from instant gratification to that of delayed gratification. In everyday life, it looks like being willing to have difficult conversations, setting healthy boundaries for both ourselves and others, being ready to make hard choices in order to live according to our values – hold space for both stress and happiness at the same time without it harming our general wellbeing. Sustainable happiness becomes our superpower as we get to live an authentic and rich life, leaving a legacy that is beneficial for generations to come.

Leveraging Strengths • Andreea Pap • Netherlands
In a world that is focused on what’s wrong, I am part of the movement that focuses on what’s right and I work with people to empower them to better leverage their strengths. This workshop is
designed to help people discover, understand, build and leverage their strengths in their everyday life to live a more fulfilled life.
If science has proven that it is twice as important to focus on our strengths, why is it so hard to do it in our everyday life? And why do less than 20% of people feel that they use their strengths daily at work?
Sparking Ourselves: A New Tool to Align Us into Alive-ness • Sally Wolf • United States
What if we had the power to align our days with activities that energize and elevate us? Not only personally, but also professionally? Not only on our good days but also on our tougher ones? And what if we could do that by changing our approach to work instead of changing our jobs? This workshop will provide the foundation for Sparketypes, an introduction to the 10 types, how we each have 3 (primary/shadow, anti) and how they intersect to create a blueprint for our lives. Fun exercises, breakouts, worksheets and personal story shares will enable participants to better understand what energizes vs depletes them, empowering them to create days more aligned with their fullest potential. Everyone is welcome, whether or not you have already taken the free Sparketype self-assessment (available here).
Creating Joy to Feel More Alive • Mavis Tsai & Valerie Freilich • United States
Mavis’s LinkedIn Profile // Valerie’s LinkedIn Profile

Based on our work in the Awareness, Courage and Love Global Project (www.livewithacl.org), we’ll be exploring what brings you joy, and how you can cultivate more joy during challenging times in your life. By saying yes fully to whatever we are experiencing, we start coming home to ourselves. Then you will journal on contemplation questions on your barriers to joy. Finally, you will practice with different conversation partners the three components of extraordinary interactions as you discuss your triumphs and struggles with joy. You will leave with a blueprint of concrete steps to live a life that allows for the joy that you deserve.

The Words in Our Experiences • Elizabeth Wuller & Jamie Ferrer • United States
Elizabeth’s LinkedIn Profile
Jamie’s LinkedIn Profile
Our individual experiences are an important part of who we are. These affect us in a very unique way as they happen. These also tend to register on us on a personal level over time. Everything that happens externally is a neutral event until we give it its own meaning. This is why our own individuality significantly affects the way we assign value to our experiences. In fact, the way we script our experiences play a big part in how we see ourselves in more ways than we know. It is our awareness and decisions around our upbringing, situation, and perspective that can either hinder or encourage us from seeing our experiences from a wider perspective.
Learning to Create Happiness and Healing Through Movement • Jana Danielson • Canada
Jospeh Pilates said “Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.” The physicality of our body-how it looks, how it functions and how it serves is related in a major way to our emotionality, personality and spirituality. It is time that a new conversation take place about our health, our health from the inside out. If happiness is directly linked to physical fitness then we have an opportunity to teach and inspire people from all over about the basics of hydration, oxygenation, spinal movement, posture in a way that resonates. In our fast paced, gadget-ridden society, it may be time to take a closer look at the simplicity of what our body needs to be happy. When 80-90% of the 60,000-70,000 thoughts that we think in a day are the same as the thoughts that we had yesterday and last month and last year how do we stop the cycle of a sedentary lifestyle, of depression of a lack of confidence of feeling like we are not enough – it starts with us, it starts with movement, it starts with a conversation.

Cultivating Peace • Marie Butcher • United States
How do we invite more peace into our lives at the individual, interpersonal, and collective levels? We will start with the following basic premises:
- Peace is Possible: How do we break down these barriers and start with the premise that “peace is possible”? We will invoke the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh and other mentors/ visionaries for peace.
- Peace is Personal: What is your active commitment to creating and sustaining more peace in your life?
- Peace is Powerful: Establishing a community of peace is not a passive activity. It requires being courageous and stepping into your fully embodied practice. It requires active listening, resisting the urge to respond. Peace is intentional, powerful, and “contagious” in a good way, energetically.
